What is telomere health and how can it help you?

Telomere Health

Telomeres serve to protect chromosomes, but each time a cell divides, the telomeres shorten. When telomeres shorten to critical lengths, the cell dies. Shortened telomeres are linked to ill health and aging.

Telomerase, often referred to as ‘the fountain of youth’, is the key enzyme that repairs telomeres by maintaining telomere length.  That’s important in healthy living, because shortened telomeres directly affect our rate of aging.

What is a telomere?

In simple English, a telomere is a combination of DNA and protein that sits at the end of a chromosome. Like a small cap, it protects the chromosome, which would otherwise deteriorate or fuse with other chromosomes. Telomeres get shorter each time our cells divide, but this is an important part of the aging process. As our cells have a very limited lifespan, cell division is the body’s way of renewing itself and an essential element to our health and vitality.  If cells divided without telomeres, they would lose the ends of their chromosomes, and the important genetic material they contain.

However, each time a cell divides the ends are not completely copied, so over time telomeres get shorter and shorter. When telomeres get too short, the cells can no longer divide and they become senescent or die.

Longer telomeres have been linked to fewer illnesses and longer life, shorter telomeres to disease and mortality. More specifically, shorter telomeres are linked to strokes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, dementia, depression, obesity and osteoporosis, among other diseases.

Can we reverse telomere length?

Aging may be inevitable, but the rate of aging is not.  Research shows that telomere shortening can be slowed, stopped or even reversed by maintaining healthy telomerase production in the body. Telomerase rebuilds and replenishes the ends of the chromosomes to keep cells healthy.  If telomerase enzyme levels are high, the telomere length – and our health – is maintained.

Unfortunately, the amount of telomerase in our bodies naturally declines as we get older.  This is where a supplement such as Puraz T5™ is beneficial.

Puraz T5™ contains key ingredients that activate and support our body’s own natural telomerase enzyme production.  It also contains added antioxidants that are essential for protecting against oxidative stress, which is known to accelerate telomere shortening.

It’s just a simple matter of one Puraz T5™ capsule a day for overall health and longevity – and that all-important support for telomeres.
