What people are saying about Telomere Health

Our telomeres are critical to youthful cell function, and looking after them is the key to staying young and living a healthier life, for longer.

WHAT ARE TELOMERES?

The human body is made up of millions of millions of cells that make up our body; our skin, organs, and bones. Inside our cells are numerous chromosomes. These are long threads of DNA carrying our genetic information. Right at the end of the chromosomes, are small protective caps called our telomeres. These telomeres act as the aging clock in every cell. In fact, telomeres are the caps at the end of each strand of DNA that protect our chromosomes.

An easy way to understand telomeres is to think of them like the plastic tips at the end of your shoelaces. Just like these shoelace caps, the older the telomeres get, the more worn out and shorter they become, until they can no longer provide cell protection. Eventually, telomeres get too short to do their job, causing our cells to age and stop functioning properly, ultimately leading to ill-health, disease and of course aging.

WHAT IS TELOMERASE?

Telomeres are protective tips on the ends of our chromosomes that get shorter each time our cells divide. Cell division is the body's way of renewing itself and an essential element to our health and vitality but as we get older the repeated cell division causes our telomeres to get shorter. When they get too short, the cells can no longer divide. Research shows that supporting healthy telomerase production in the body may help slow telomere shortening.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO SUPPORT OUR TELOMERES?

Longer telomeres have been linked to health, youth and longevity, shorter telomeres to many age-related illnesses. Studies continually show there are clear associations between telomere shortening and poor lifestyle choices, such as smoking, physical inactivity, high emotional stress, and a poor diet. Conversely, studies have shown that actions such as eating a healthy diet, taking dietary supplements, getting daily exercise, and using stress reduction techniques such as yoga and/or meditation can support healthy telomeres.

WHAT ARE THE KEY INGREDIENTS IN PURAZ TELOMERE HEALTH?

Astragalus Extract (10% Astragaloside IV)
Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) is an herb that has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. Astragaloside IV is a highly purified and potent extract derived from astralagus root. In recent times, research has shown that astragaloside IV can support production of the telomerase enzyme, and in turn support the maintenance of telomere length.

Baicalin
Baicalin is a flavone extracted from the medicinal herb Scutellaria baicalensis. Studies have shown that baicalin can help to support and protect skin cells from telomere damage that is caused by the sun. In turn, this nutritional support can provide valuable protection for the aging of fibroblasts and restoring their youthful strength.

Glutathione
Oxidative stress is a major cause of disease and known to accelerate aging, and in particular telomere shortening. Glutathione functions as the body’s master antioxidant. It is synthesised by every human cell, mopping up the DNA damaging free radicals and peroxides that result from daily exposure to environmental toxins that occur as a byproduct of oxidative stress.

Antioxidant Complex
Puraz Telomere Health contains a proprietary formulation of antioxidant extracts from four New Zealand super fruits: grapes, boysenberries, blackcurrants and kiwifruit, with added vitamin C. This powerful antioxidant complex provides support for protection against oxidative stress and ultimately healthy telomere maintenance.

Selenium
Selenium is a powerful antioxidant, and is an important component of several detoxification enzymes, including glutathione peroxidase. Animal and cell studies have shown that higher selenium levels supported increased production and activity of telomerase and healthy telomere levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are telomeres?

Telomeres are buffers, protective pieces of DNA material at the ends of each and every chromosome in every cell in the body. Telomeres perform a similar role to the plastic tip at the end of a shoelace. Like these plastic tips that keep shoelaces from becoming damaged or frayed, telomeres protect our chromosomes from the critical shortening and damage that may ultimately lead to cellular death and loss of health. Our telomeres are essentially a bio-marker of our age, or "genetic time clock" getting shorter and shorter throughout our lifetime, until they reach a point where our cells cannot divide any further, and we die of old age.

  • How are telomeres related to health and longevity?

Studies have shown links between shorter telomere length and various types of cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, cognitive function, dementia, depression, and inflammatory diseases like arthritis. Conversely, longer telomeres are linked to healthy aging and overall longevity.

  • What is telomerase?

Telomerase is our body's own naturally produced enzyme that is commonly referred to as the 'fountain of youth'. Telomerase counteracts telomere shortening by rebuilding and replenishing the ends of the chromosomes to keep cells (and you) healthy. If telomerase enzyme levels are high, the telomere length is maintained and our cells can be replicated more completely, rather than degrading over time.

  • What are the key active ingredients in Telomere Health and how do they support telomeres?

Telomere Health contains astragalus extract (including 10% Astragaloside IV) and selenium to support the body's increase of telomerase enzyme, along with baicalin, glutathione and a New Zealand made antioxidant complex to protect against the oxidative stress that causes telomere shortening.

  • What distinguishes Telomere Health from other telomere supplements on the market?

Produced from the latest research available on telomeres, Telomere Health contains nutritional ingredients that are proven to support the two major causes of telomere shortening, 1) loss of telomerase and telomerase activity, and 2) oxidative stress. Most other products on the market will generally only target one of these areas.

  • Will I get any noticeable results from taking Telomere Health?

Results and benefits will of course vary from person to person. Some people experience improved energy, well-being, and even more. Others do not report "feeling" any differently, but continue to take Telomere Health in the knowledge that its active ingredients are backed up by scientific research and they are supporting their telomere health and telomerase activity.

  • Can changes to my lifestyle help with my telomere length?

Yes. Research shows that positive lifestyle changes can not only maintain but also increase your telomere length. Stress management techniques such as yoga, exercise and a healthy diet have been shown to have a positive impact on telomere length and telomerase activity. We recommend combining Telomere Health with good lifestyle choices for optimum health and longevity.

  • Can I take Telomere Health if pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Due to the fact that no research has been done in this area, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding do not use Telomere Health without professional medical advice.

  • Are there any known side effects to taking Telomere Health?

No, there are no known side effects and Telomere Health is generally very well tolerated.
